David Ryan completed his BA (Hons) Linguistics at the University of Manchester. As an undergraduate he also undertook a semester of study at the University of Hong Kong in 2010. The multilingual environment in Hong Kong acted as an inspiration to write his undergraduate dissertation on the subject of Linguistic Landscapes, which comprised of an analysis of multilingual signage in Manchester, and the wider parallels and implications this had for languages in two multilingual communities in the city. David's main interests include Sociolinguistics, Language Contact, Diglossia, Linguistic Landscapes, Language and Gender, and Discourse Analysis. He is currently considering options for further study.
